English Translation
O Allah, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge, and I seek Your power through Your might, and I ask You from Your immense favor. For indeed, You have power, while I have none; You have knowledge, while I know not; and You are the Knower of the unseen.
O Allah, if You know that this matter is good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and the outcome of my affairs—both immediate and in the future—then ordain it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me.
And if You know that this matter is bad for me in my religion, my livelihood, and the outcome of my affairs—both immediate and in the future—then turn it away from me, and turn me away from it. And decree for me what is good wherever it may be, and make me pleased with it.

Imam Ibn Taymiyyah said that:
“That whoever seeks اللّٰہ guidence, consults others, and remains patient in their decisions will never regret it”.
Before Islam, people relied on superstitions like bird omens, astrology, and fortune-telling, but Islam taught believers to seek Allah’s wisdom instead.

4. Trust in Allah’s Plan
- Dua-e-Istikhara is not about receiving a specific answer like a “yes” or “no,” but about seeking Allah’s guidance. After making the Dua, trust that Allah will guide you toward what is best, whether the outcome is as you expected or not. It’s important to have faith that Allah’s decision will be the best for you.
5. Signs of Guidance
- After performing Dua-e-Istikhara, be patient and wait for clarity or signs. The guidance may come in the form of peace in your heart, a change in circumstances, or a clear path opening up. Sometimes, Allah may lead you to a decision without directly showing signs, and this should be trusted as His will.
6. Repetition of Istikhara
- If you still feel uncertain after performing Dua-e-Istikhara, you can repeat the Dua up to seven times. It’s encouraged to perform the Dua as many times as necessary until you feel at peace with your decision.
7. Practical Steps
- While Dua-e-Istikhara is important, you should also take practical steps to make the best decision. Seek advice from knowledgeable people, weigh the pros and cons, and use your wisdom. Dua-e-Istikhara is a supplement to your efforts, not a substitute.
8. Don’t Rush the Decision
- After performing Dua-e-Istikhara, give yourself time to reflect. Do not rush the decision-making process. Allah will guide you at the right time.

“I used to write it on moonlit nights while sitting near the blessed grave of Prophet Muhammadﷺ.”
